Hyper Nephelometer Turbidity

December 4, 2008

The term Hyper Nephelometer Turbidity was first coined by the Australia comedy trio Tripod during a song in an hour challenge on Triple J.

Anything man, anything man.

Nephelometer comes from the Greek word for cloud and is an instrument that measures the reflection of light from suspended particles in gas or liquid.

Turbidity is the haziness or cloudiness of fluid caused by these suspended particles.

By putting the two words together, nephelometer turbidity, we get an instrument that measures the reflection of light from the particles that cause the haziness or cloudiness of fluid, or in laymen’s terms it measures the murkiness of water.

Add the word hyper and you have a super piece of equipment that measures dirty water.
